Ever since Billie Lourd (Carrie Fisher’s daughter) was cast in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the rumor mill has insisted that she would play her mom’s character, Princess Leia, in a flashback. Well, someone got around to asking Lourd about it and, uh, not so much.
Lourd’s actually pretty blunt, in this clip found by Indie Revolver:
That’s a lie. I wish I was playing a young Princess Leia. Disney, I’m available!
Welp, either that rumor’s busted, or Lourd just really likes screwing with the hosts of Entertainment Tonight. It’s perhaps not quite as surprising as one might think; Lourd was cast fairly late into filming, so it seems more likely she’s only got a small part to play in the movie.
This blows a hole in the flashback rumor, obviously, but it does raise the question of what Lourd’s role might be. Is she just one of Leia’s handmaidens? Or does it perhaps tie into Daisy Ridley’s rather coy discussion of her character’s parentage? We’ll find out this Christmas.
