It’s been over a year since Robin Williams passed away, and for many of the legendary comedian’s fans (myself included), it’s still hard to imagine a world without his special sense of comedy. Longtime friend of Williams, Billy Crystal, opened up about his late friend at the New York Comedy Festival in New York. Crystal shared some stories of Williams that provide great insight into the comedian’s perverse sense of twisted humor.
Crystal revealed a phone call that he received from Williams during Ronald Reagan’s televised funeral. The call, according to Crystal, went something like this and reflected both comedians’ love of dark jokes:
Crystal: “Hello?”
Williams: “Bill? Hi, it’s Ronald.”
Crystal: “Mr. President, this is quite a coincidence. I’m watching your funeral … Let me ask you, Mr. President. What’s Heaven like?”
Williams: “Well, it’s a lot hotter than I thought it was going to be.”
Crystal: “Hotter? Well, sir, you might not be in Heaven.”
Williams: “The humidity is making my shirt stick to my a**.”
Crystal also told those in attendance that Williams was very close to him. He was also like an uncle to every one of his children and made in appearance in every single bar mitzvah video and wedding album. Just like family does.
