Earlier this week, Jennifer Lawrence revealed her appearance as Mystique in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse will be her final outing with the franchise. However, while the film may be serving as her end, a new rumor says it will also serve as a new cast member’s beginning. Channing Tatum in the house.
Being the fan favorite that he is, it wouldn’t be surprising for Fox to work Gambit into the next X-Men film. The character got an unfortunate start a few years ago via an appearance by Taylor Kitsch in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Since then, the word for a while was that Tatum would be taking over the role, and while there was talk he would appear in Apocalypse, this is the first time we’re getting an idea of the extent to which that will happen.
Currently, there’s a Tatum-starring Gambit solo film scheduled for October 2016, but given schedules and the fact that news for it has been slim since the January announcement, we don’t know if that’s still happening. For now, all we can posit is that Tatum will be showing up in the Bryan Singer film next year and all we can hope for is that the appearance lives up to the hype.
