Deadpool 2 isn’t officially announced yet, but considering Deadpool made a boatload of cash well beyond what anyone was expecting, it seems very, very likely. And Cable will be in it, but what will the future warrior have to do in the movie?
Be the bad guy! Well, sort of. It sounds like Deadpool 2 is going to feature Cable trying to get Deadpool to help him with something that might change the course of human history, and Deadpool not taking it remotely seriously:
There’s a lot of fun in that he’s very serious and he does take on more serious weighty issues than Deadpool’s used to taking on, so I think there’s a juxtaposition there that can be fun… I think Cable offers us the opportunity to provide another really cool, different foil for Deadpool.
If you’re not familiar with the comics, Cable is the son of Cyclops and Madeline Pryor, a clone of Jean Grey. Yes, comics are weird. Anyway, he’s sent to the future, gets a “techno-organic” virus that never seems to do anything other than give him a neat metal arm and a taste for pouches, becomes a warrior, and then returns to our time in order to make the world a better place. This usually involves mass property damage, for reasons Cable never really properly explains.
They’ve also noted they don’t want to up the stakes: Deadpool won’t be saving the world, just generally his own hindquarters and/or those of his friends. So if he does wind up helping Cable in Deadpool 2, it’ll be by mistake. And really, would we have it any other way?
