For a while, it was standard practice for all major geek movies to have a post-credits scene. Those funny, intriguing little tidbits aren’t quite as common as they used to be, though – Star Wars: The Force Awakens didn’t have one, and Avengers: Age of Ultron only featured a mid-credits scene. Is the era of the post-credits scene fading away? Are obsessive credit watchers like myself going to be all on our own again?
Not if Deadpool has anything to say about it. As you may have heard, Fox recently surprised select fans in New York and LA with a full screening of Deadpool, and according to those in attendance, there was a post-credits scene. Details about what the post-credits scene contained are scarce, and I wouldn’t want to spoil them anyways, but according to Screen Rant, the scene was fairly low-key and comedic in nature. This is interesting, because Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick teased a much more ambitious post-credits scene a few months back…
“There is a post credit thing that if hopefully comes together, It’s gonna be phenomenal. We’re planning it. It’s one of those ones that’s gonna require some doing, so it may not come together, and if so, I don’t know, we’ll either do a plan be or none at all. I think we should have one, I mean, we really feel like we should have one.”
So, did Fox swap out this post-credits scene for something more lighthearted in order to avoid spoilers getting out? Or did this “phenomenal” scene just not come together? Either way, we know some kind of post-credits scene exists, so make sure to stick around for the Deadpool afterglow.
Deadpool arrives to chop up the superhero competition February 12.
