Finally! A lead you can root for in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.We kid! Matthew Broderick’s character being a self-important a**hole that does what he wants with minimal consequences is a total delight. Although, one wonders what would happen if someone who’s less of a psychopath found themselves making the most of their day off. Like say a reasonable gent like Deadpool.
We live in an age where we’re fond of mashing our ups to combine worlds and blend what might not be considered blendable. As a result, we get some lovely stuff like Darth Blender‘s inspired mashup of Deadpool and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off titled (what else?) Deadpool’s Day Off. A logical extension of the end credits homage from the R-rated superhero offering, it’s sort of eerie how comfortable of a fit the Merc with the Mouth is in the world of John Hughes. (Even if he’s more of Salt-N-Pepa fan than a General Public die-hard.)
Woven together with a remarkable amount of care, Deadpool’s Day Off features a mix of the “greatest hits” moments from the two films with an agreeably warped perspective. (You bet your ass Yello’s “Oh Yeah” makes an appearance.) Negasonic Teenage Warhead serves as your Sloane substitute, while Colossus gets slotted in for Cameron. If memory serves, there’s a touch more spectacular death in this than in the original Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, but maybe we’re overthinking things.
