There have been rumors of a Fantastic Four / X-Men crossover movie for a long time, then we heard Fox was trying to get Bryan Singer to direct Fantastic Four 2 as a lead-in to a crossover universe. Bryan Singer himself confirmed just two weeks ago that it was in the works and hinted at how it could work.
Welp. So much for that idea.
Fantastic Four producers Simon Kinberg and Hutch Parker — the guys who were rumored to have done re-shoots on Fantastic Four, which director Josh Trank doesn’t seem happy about — have emailed New York Daily News to put the kibosh on all this Fantastic Four / X-Men crossover talk. In a joint email, they told New York Daily News:
“They exist in parallel universes. The Fantastic 4 live in a world without mutants. And the X-Men live in a world without the Fantastic 4.”
Normally, combining universes wouldn’t be a problem to a studio unless one of their properties is very valuable, while the other is on track to have a lower opening than both 2005’s Fantastic Four and Rise of the Silver Surfer, and surely the new movie isn’t on track to… Oh.
No wonder they’re now trying to Magneto away from this whole thing.
