Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson deserves every bit of credit he gets for the part he’s played in revitalizing the Fast and Furious franchise. He first appeared in the fifth installment of the franchise (Fast Five, because this series is nothing if not literal) as Hobbs, a no-nonsense government field agent tasked with bringing in Vin Diesel’s Dominic and his cohorts. He added something extra to the existing cast’s chemistry and provided a much needed foil (and, eventually, friend) to Vin Diesel’s onscreen character. Plus, he’s The Rock. It’s always fun to watch The Rock (why else would he be debuting a YouTube channel?. Johnson is returning for the upcoming Fast and Furious 8, directed by Straight Outta Compton‘s F. Gary Gray, and from the looks of a recent Instagram post, Hobbs is going to be thrown quite the curveball in this new film.
That’s right, folks: it looks like Hobbs is getting locked up. It’s quite the change of pace for a character who has always been on the right side of the law in these movies. What it means is anybody’s guess. Perhaps the gang is getting locked up for real, or maybe it’s all part of a ruse. Nobody knows as of right now. What we do know is that if Hobbs is in jail, he’s gonna have to break out eventually. And it’s going to be interesting to see, even if it’s literally just The Rock juggernauting his way out of a prison and leaving The People’s Champion-shaped holes in brick walls (scratch that, ESPECIALLY if it’s The Rock juggernauting his way out of a prison). Whatever the reason for the new threads, it will be exciting to watch.
