He’s getting up there in age but even though Steven Spielberg hasn’t reached into his wheelhouse for too many movies about the wonderment of being a kid over the past several years, he’s probably still the foremost master of such tales. If you doubt that in the slightest, just take a look at the latest trailer for his new movie, The BFG.
The anticipation levels for Disney’s The BFG, have been pretty much off the charts and the buzz from the Cannes Film Festival has been mostly positive thus far. The story, based on Roald Dahl’s classic tale, examines the relationship between young, British girl Sophie and a giant who she dubs “The BFG” and is played by Mark Rylance, who just won an Oscar for Spielberg’s last movie, Bridge of Spies. The movie was written by the late Melissa Mathison, who wrote Spielberg’s most beloved about children coming into contact with a magical, supernatural force, E.T., 34 years ago.
The BFG sports a pretty impressive supporting cast, with Bill Hader, Jemaine Clement and Rebecca Hall joining Rylance and wee newcomer Ruby Barnhill, who plays Sophie. This new trailer takes Sophie and her new friend into the CGI-land of giants, where they encounter some big fellows not nearly as friendly as the BFG is.
The BFG hits theaters on July 1.
