Hollywood is in preparation mode for Flatliners-mania to sweep the globe once again, and now the planned nostalgia-beckoning reboot may have a new name to add to the cast. Conveniently enough, it’s someone that has a bit of experience dealing with the near-dead.
According to Variety, not only will production begin for the motion picture in July, but Vampire Diaries alum Nina Dobrev is in talks to come aboard. If everything’s a go, she’ll join a cast that includes Academy Award nominee Ellen Page and Rogue One star Diego Luna. Who would she play? Dobrev’s role would be that of class overachiever Marlo. “BUT WILL IT HAVE MORE SWEET OLIVER PLATT ACTION?” cries America. Sadly, we don’t know just yet.
The film will likely revisit the whole “let’s poke our heads into death” motif of the 1990 original and hopefully we’ll get a cool poster of the deal just like its predecessor. (Even if the film wasn’t of interest, its VHS box art looked mighty in dingier video rental outlets.) Dead Man Down helmer Niels Arden Oplev has been tapped to direct the redo with Source Code scribe Ben Ripley handling the script. Just like its first go-around, Michael Douglas takes on a producer role. THOSE LINES ARE GONNA GET FLAT, EVERYBODY!
