Last year, the world lost a true legend when Leonard Nimoy died at the age of 83. The outpouring of emotion and tributes to the man behind Star Trek‘s Mr. Spock was massive, and we learned one of those tributes was going to come from Nimoy’s own son, Adam. Back in March 2015, Adam Nimoy announced he’d be making a documentary, For the Love of Spock — about the beloved character and his father’s lifelong dedication to him. A few months later, Adam launched a successful Kickstarter campaign for the film.
Well, a little over a year after Adam’s initial announcement, we have the first trailer for For the Love of Spock. Really, it’s more of a teaser, as we don’t see any actual footage, but we do get a number of touching audio clips from William Shatner, Walter Koenig, Simon Pegg, George Takei and Zachary Quinto, who narrates the whole thing. Obviously this movie is going to be all about the interviews, so just the audio is enough to hook me. That said, Adam is promising the film will contain never-before-seen footage and home movies of Leonard Nimoy.
For the Love of Spock will debut this Saturday, April 16, at the Tribeca Film Festival. It will be available to stream later this year in celebration of Star Trek‘s 50th anniversary.
