Following a slew of teasers during the finale for Mr. Robot back in September and one of those teaser trailers for a trailer earlier in the week, we finally have a full trailer for Ghost In The Shell. Considering the current infatuation with Westworld, the sights and story behind this adaptation of the Japanese classic seem poised to hit well with audiences. That’s if they can look past the claims of whitewashing that are still dogging the production.
Scarlett Johansson is The Major, formerly Major Motoko Kusanagi in the original, and she’s leading the fight against those darn technophobic extremists in a future Tokyo. The visuals will obviously have many thinking back to The Matrix, but this is a far more saturated world than the dark, gloomy world of The Matrix. While it seems like it is always ready to rain, there’s no shortage of color throughout the world in this trailer. Not going to say it’s a good or bad thing, but it certainly carries that Blade Runner feel with it — and I expect we’ll see similar when Blade Runner 2 hits theaters.
Obviously, there’s only so much you can take from a trailer, but this looks more on the interesting/good side than something that might be garbage water put to film. Also, Michael Wincott is in there and that’s usually not a bad thing. It certainly works for Westworld.
