Both Marvel’s The Avengers and Captain America: The Winter Soldier featured the impossibly huge S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier as the future of world defense. Soaring through the skies, invisible to the naked eye and probably any basic radar systems, the flying aircraft carriers possessed the abilities to gun down thousands of people per second, so long as they posed a threat to mankind. You know, depending on whether you’re a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent or a loyal servant of HYDRA.
And just the other day, I was watching The Winter Soldier and thinking to myself, “How the f*ck does that thing even get made?” because those helicarriers are so insanely large, and suddenly Nick Fury had three underground, made on the spot with a 3D printer. Well, now we can learn how tough it is on our own, because Lego has unveiled an amazing 2,996-piece S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier set that will cost $349.99 and be available in March.
According to Lego, the set features two runways, microscale Quinjets, fighter jets and ground support vehicles. It includes five minifigures — Nick Fury, Black Widow, Captain America, Hawkeye and, new for Spring 2015, Maria Hill.
The Helicarrier also comes with 12 microfigures to scatter around the carrier’s enormous deck and interior. (It’s that big.) The microfigures are Nick Fury, Hawkeye, Captain America, Iron Man and eight SHIELD agents. (Via the Wall Street Journal, which has several additional images)
Great. Just when you thought that nothing was more painful than stepping on a regular Lego minifigure, they give your kids microfigures to leave scattered on the floor. Good thing I don’t have kids and am more than capable of putting my toys away when I’m done with play time.
