The trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence has finally hit the small screen. We’ve seen some new faces and heard some familiar voices, but who all is returning from the original movie? Let’s take a look.
One of the biggest reveals is the lack of Will Smith, as he isn’t reprising his role as alien puncher Captain Steven Hiller. The reason for the missing bad boy is because his character tragically died in 2007, and you can find the detailed explanation of this fictional character’s death in news reports on Fox’s site. Other characters are left to carry on his goal of welcoming extraterrestrials, though, as we saw a trailer filled with Liam Hensworth, who’ll be leading the fight.
You also couldn’t miss Jeff Goldblum going all Goldblum in the preview, most likely working with the returning Dr. Okun (played by Brent Spiner). Ageless Judd Hirsch is back, looking very concerned, along with Bill Pullman, who’s also concerned. It’s a very concerning movie, because, you know, there are giant alien ships back in our skies again. Vivica A. Fox will be reprising her role as the stripper-turned-hospital-administrator (because strippers really are just trying to pay for school after their boyfriends save the world).
We can only hope that the top-notch hacking skills will also be returning for Resurgence. I mean, we have Wi-Fi now. Even with all those familiar faces back to wage war, those aliens don’t stand a chance. Who are you looking forward to returning?
