Jake Gyllenhaal Will Make His Musical Debut In ‘Little Shop Of Horrors’

Who knew Jake Gyllenhaal had some mean pipes on him? The actor, whose transformation for the upcoming Eminem-less film Southpaw is quite startling, will make another one for the role of Seymour in this summer’s concert revival of the movie-turned-musical-turned-movie.

According to Deadline:

Gyllenhaal just concluded a sold-out Broadway run opposite Ruth Wilson in Constellations and will be making his musical-theater debut in the show. He’ll be joined by Chuck Cooper as the increasingly insatiable plant (“Feed me!”) and Saturday Night Live‘s Tarran Killamas the psycho-dentist boyfriend of previously announced star Ellen Greene. The show is presented as part of New York City Center’s “Encores! Off-Center” summer series.

The musical (and 1986 movie) will run July 1-2 at the Midtown West venue.

Comedy legends Rick Moranis and Steve Martin starred in the 1986 film adaptation of the 1982 musical. They both sang the movie’s tunes admirably, so here’s to Gyllenhaal doing the same this summer in New York. Besides, with a double-feature of movie and concert, it sounds like it’ll be a fun show to check out.
