There was so much going on in Batman v. Superman that you’re forgiven if you missed any of the myriad sidebars that sent the action and the plot moving in 100 different directions. One of those diversions wound up being our first look at Jason Momoa as Aquaman, and it got the ball rolling for that particular DC superhero’s own flick, which is coming in a couple years.
James Wan, the horror director who parlayed his success with the Saw franchise into a gig at the helm of last year’s smash Furious 7, will handle Aquaman directorial duties.
When he popped into Wondercon in L.A. this weekend to talk about his two upcoming scary movies — The Conjuring 2 and Lights Out — he got into a brief discussion with IGN on everyone’s favorite underwater superhero, who, thankfully, will not be played by Vinny Chase:
“The kind of filmmaker that I am, even my darker horror films generally are still very fun. And I think that’s important for me and the kind of films I make I think Aquaman is a character that a lot of people have made fun of over the years, and I just think it’s fun to actually show a really different, cool, badass side to this character. “But the same time, let’s not forget to have fun with it.”
Wait, what? Have fun with a superhero movie? You don’t say. One can only hope Zack Snyder takes those words to heart before Justice League.
