Jason Statham is so badass, even his character names are intimidating. Lee Christmas. Deckard Shaw. Chev Chelios. Nick Wild. Rick Ford. “Bacon.” That should be The Expendables 4 — a team of five different hardcore heroes, all played by Statham, fighting five vengeful villains, also all played by Statham. It’s like Multiplicity… but to the max. Instead, we’re getting a sequel to The Mechanic, Mechanic: Resurrection, which to be fair, looks pretty great. Zootopia might be the best movie of the year, according to critics, but does it have Statham killing a dude by shattering his glass pool? Didn’t think so.
There are few things in life more fun than watching Statham kick someone’s butt, but why Statham and not, say, Gerard Butler? That’s what Collider recently asked the Furious 8 star — his answer didn’t disappoint. “I’m an audience-goer. I love movies, and if there’s a bunch of bad guys that need what we call ‘serving,’ if they need their comeuppance, who’d be the better person than the on-screen hero?” he said. “Y’know, I think people just like seeing nasty people getting their comeuppance, and I think that if you’re bad, it’s great to see them go down in ingenious ways, y’know? If someone needs his face put on a barbecue, let’s put the face on the barbecue.”
I can’t wait until Statham puts a giant-ass shark’s face on the barbecue.
