J.J. Abrams Gives An Update On The ‘Half Life’ And ‘Portal’ Movies

Half-Life 3, or at the very least Half-Life 2 Episode 3 feels like it will never be confirmed. Valve is too busy taking over the PC gaming world to be bothered with producing a sequel to the greatest property they’ve ever created, it seems. But, there is a potential light at the end of the tunnel. The Half-Life and Portal movies that J.J. Abrams has been producing since 2013 are still being worked on. There are writers, doing what they do (writing), but beyond that, there isn’t much to report, according to IGN.

“Not yet, but they’re in development and we’ve got writers, and we’re working on both those stories. But nothing that would be an exciting update.”

Hmm. OK. Now, to revel in some less-than-positive news about another beloved game series being adapted to the silver screen. Fallout and Elder Scrolls director Todd Howard has shut down (for now) any and all rumors of a movie based on his games, fairly saying that a Fallout movie isn’t looking like a possibility. “We’ve had a couple of in-roads, particularly with Fallout, which is a bit stickier than Elder Scrolls, but everybody’s kind of asked and I’ve taken a number of [Fallout movie pitch] meetings over the years and nothing quite clicked where I felt, ‘Oh, that would be as good as the game.

And that may happen. I don’t rule it out, but nothing really has clicked where – the games are popular enough and that’s their identity.”

Will these go down the drain like the Bioshock movie? (Pun intended.) For now, we’ll just have to sit back and enjoy the amazing fan films that have been spawned by the greatness of Half-Life and Portal.
