It’s the movie event of 2017: no, not Star Wars: Episode VIII, or Justice League, or even Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. I’m, of course, referring to John Wick: Chapter Two, the sequel to the greatest movie where a guy goes on a murder spree after his adorable dog is killed ever. (Fun fact: John Wick: Chapter Two comes out the same day, Feb. 17, as Fifty Shades Darker and The LEGO Batman Movie. I will watch all three opening night.) So far, we’ve seen well-dressed posters and badass dogs with attitude (“This is a dog who gets ‘biz-zay,’ consistently and thoroughly“), but no actual footage from the film. Until Wednesday night, when the first footage from John Wick: Chapter Two was released.
The clip is appropriately ridiculous: John Wick is in Rome, where he’s being fitted for a suit. Also, he buys a new gun for an unknown “party.” That’s it. But what more do you need? You’re either already in on Wick’s revenge rampage, or you’re saving your money for Smurfs: The Lost Village. Director Chad Stahelski told EW that “we wanted to create a little bit of glitz. We thought about expanding it over to where the Wick world comes from, which would be a lot deeper into the past, which has more of a European vibe. We thought about all the cities we could go to, and because we have a certain kind of style with the suits, and the etiquette, we just thought Italian style and sensibility was best suited for our film.” He added, “So, we went and shot in Rome.”
All roads lead to Rome, where John Wick is waiting.
