As tonight’s Academy Awards broadcast gets closer, the mud-slinging on and off the red carpet will eventually reach the level of social awkwardness achieved by The Hangover‘s Justin Bartha. Like when comedian Kathy Griffin — a panelist on E! Fashion Police — randomly decided to revisit director Woody Allen’s alleged abuse of Dylan Farrow, his adopted daughter. How’d she do it? By singling out actress Cate Blanchett.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Griffin called the Blue Jasmine star a “Woody Allen apologist” and suggested she’d “have to pay for that” at some point in the near future. The remarks were apparently a reference to Blanchett’s comments on Farrow’s open letter published last year.
Blanchett won the Best Actress Oscar trophy at last year’s awards for her role in Blue Jasmine. She’s not nominated for anything this year, so the reasoning behind Griffin’s claim remains unknown.
