As we recently learned, Star Wars and LEGO are teaming up for yet another video game, but apparently they’re also planning to bring their fruitful partnership to television.
Disney XD will soon be launching LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures, a new series set somewhere between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. The show will focus on the Freemaker family, who make ends meet as scavengers. A connection to the Force is discovered in the youngest member of the family when he happens upon a lightsaber during a scavenging mission, and suddenly the unassuming Freemaker family is thrust into the middle of the war between the Rebels and the Empire. I’m not sure why any of this needs to be made out of LEGO, but that’s actually a pretty damn solid setup.
Of course, what most fans are probably going to fixate on are the parallels between the Freemakers’ story and that of Rey from The Force Awakens. Could the Freemakers be Rey’s parents?! Prooooobably not, but I’d be shocked if they didn’t toy with the fans by dropping a few red herrings to that effect.
Carrie Beck, Vice President of Animation at Lucasfilm, talked up the new series…
“With The Freemaker Adventures we are thrilled to bring all new stories to life that could only be realized in the LEGO Star Wars universe. We are embarking on an unprecedented collaboration that will allow us to extend the narrative experience of the Star Wars saga with the same playful spirit that’s always made Lego Star Wars so much fun to watch.”
LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures debuts on Disney XD this summer.
