Harley Quinn’s Co-Creator Says Margot Robbie ‘Nailed It’ In ‘Suicide Squad’

Harley Quinn is finally coming to the big screen — played by unicorn-enthusiast and amateur tattooist Margot Robbie — in Suicide Squad, opening tomorrow (our reviews here and here). It’s been a long wait, 25 years to be precise. Paul Dini and Bruce Timm created the character for Batman: The Animated Series, and she’s been a fan favorite ever since. Comic Book spoke with Dini about what he thinks of Robbie’s performance.

“Every clip that I’ve seen of Margot as Harley, she seems to have nailed it perfectly. When she’s introducing herself to Katana, when she’s walking around with the bat behind her shoulders, she just seems to have really channeled the true spirit of the character. Seeing that come alive is just amazing for me. I saw the shot yesterday of her and Joker in the therapy session getting ready to kiss, and I was just like, ‘That’s it, that’s my girl.'”

Here’s the clip of Harley meeting Katana, in case you missed it:

And here’s her swinging the bat around, if you missed that and the conspiracy theory it inspired:

Paul Dini also spoke to Comic Book about just how surreal it is to see a character he co-created on billboards. “We were down in Times Square and saw the giant Harley billboards and everything. It’s weird to have your creation looking down at you like Godzilla.”

Daddy’s Little Monster has gone bigtime.
