The rumors of Mark Ruffalo smashing it as Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok are thankfully not just wishful thinking. Deadline reports Ruffalo is indeed in negotiations with Marvel to join the movie, and they’re “near a deal.” Just give him an organic fruit basket lined with bundles of cash and promise not to do any fracking, Marvel. He’ll sign.
Rumors of Ruffalo’s involvement are tearing up the geek sites, and it’s indeed happening. What I’m wondering is this: Of all the iterations of movies with the burly green guy, Ruffalo’s has been by far the best. So when is he going to get his own movie? … It’s possible that Ruffalo just doesn’t have time to do more than shred shirts and pants in Avengers installments, as he spends most of it starring in awards-season films. His sensibilities are more toward indie fare than tentpole.
For what it’s worth, Ruffalo has expressed interest in doing a Planet Hulk movie, but Marvel may have decided Hulk works better when he’s paired with at least one other Avenger to play off them (and let them do the talking).
Thor: Ragnarok is set to be directed by Kiwi comedy director Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) and is rumored to introduce Valkyrie, which is timely, because her job is to prepare warriors for Ragnarok. The film is also rumored to involve Hulk and Thor teaming up to cancel the apocalypse. Oh man, I just got so psyched at the thought of Hulk and Thor cancelling the apocalypse, especially if Heimdall can deliver the motivational speech.
