Matt Damon once said that his days as everyone’s favorite amnesiac badass spy were over as long as Paul Greengrass was done directing Jason Bourne films, but they just couldn’t fight the urge to keep the camera still. Even with Jeremy Renner taking his place as one of the government’s briar patch, er Blackbriar super-spies on the loose, Damon is set to return to the role that made him an action movie tough guy in 2016, with Greengrass once again directing.
Producer Frank Marshall shared the first photo of Damon back in character on the set of the unnamed Bourne film, and sure enough this sucker looks like it’s going to pack a punch. As for the plot and where Bourne will take us next, Damon gave BuzzFeed a little hint at what to expect.
“Without giving too much of it away, it’s Bourne through an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world,” Damon said. “It seems like enough has changed, you know? There are all these kinds of arguments about spying and civil liberties and the nature of democracy.” (Via BuzzFeed)
Your guess is still as good as mine, but with Tommy Lee Jones on board, we can assume that he’ll be playing the next angry CIA guy, and Julia Stiles will return to once again see if she can make Bourne remember when they were just two young killers in love. Also, Damon told BuzzFeed that this adventure “ends in Las Vegas,” which could mean that Edward Norton shows up from Renner’s Bourne franchise and BAM! They’re both amnesiacs and suddenly remember that they’re two poker-playing best friends that had a falling out in the ‘90s and together they go on a run at the World Series of Poker.
Stupider things have happened on a big screen.
