We made sure to note that Matthew McConaughey was patrolling around the Rio Olympics, cheering on some athletes, taking in some cool tunes, some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and generally being fine. If there was ever a guy who would tear his shirt off at a moment’s notice and go running down a beach — or cannonball into a green fart pool on a dare — it would still be McConaughey. It doesn’t matter how many award-winning films he shows up in.
But while he was having a good time himself, he seems to be having an even better time hanging out with some of the other big names at the events. He took the time to share one of his biggest meetings above, praising Michael Phelps on his Olympics career. The Oscar winner also posed for a photo with Ryan Lochte, putting a thousand ideas in certain people’s heads about some sort of sequel to Fool’s Gold with Lochte as a dolphin man rival for our lovable treasure hunting hero.
But the highest profile meeting of the trip might be reserved for McConaughey and Twitter favorite Leslie Jones. If anything, it’s because we get McConaughey in motion and he can’t know that he really is in motion.

She recounted the meeting later in the night, spouting off some true American talk. I can agree that McConaughey would be a true American hero if he wanted to be, but I’m fairly sure he’s just happy being a citizen of the world. Taking it all in one event at a time, like a cool breeze.
