The original Guardians of the Galaxy had a remarkable amount of talent from many walks of life — there’s the sitcom star (Chris Pratt), the sci-fi queen (Zoe Saldana), the wrestler (Dave Bautista), the A-list star (Bradley Cooper), the unlikely voice actor (Vin Diesel), and the whatever the hell Michael Rooker is (Michael Rooker). Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which is getting strong pre-release buzz, adds the grizzled vet (Kurt Russell), the other grizzled vet (Sylvester Stallone), and, in some inspired casting, the pop star: Miley Cyrus.
On Thursday, blogger Sarah Ruhlman tweeted the following:
Fun fact from the @JamesGunn @Kevfeige interview happening now! @MileyCyrus is the voice of Mainframe. #GotGVol2Event #GotGVol2

When asked about the rumor, Bautista (who it’s fun to imagine listening to “Wrecking Ball”) replied, “I heard that she’s uncredited and a voice somewhere.” It’s less a somewhere than a someone. Specifically, Mainframe, who the Comic Book Database describes as an “an alternate universe version of Vision from the 31st century who acts alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy. In this future, Mainframe is the chief operating system of an entire planet and controls everything from climate to planetary stability, and when first encountered, the guardian of the shield of Captain America.”
Party in the USA, indeed. Anyway, you know what this means? Miley Cyrus is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, joining Rob Zombie, who’s credited as playing “Ravager Navigator” in Guardians. Now there’s a more interesting collaboration than Miley and the Flaming Lips. Vin can sing backup.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is out May 5.
