The second official Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer has dropped, and as could be expected it has only ramped up the already crazy anticipation for the film’s impending release this December. The first teaser trailer for the Star Wars spinoff offered a glimpse at some of the main players in this story (as well as some old standbys) and set the tone for the film. We got a glimpse of Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, the heroine in this adventure, as well as intriguing supporting players such as Ben Mendelsohn and Forest Whitaker. Since then, new details about the movie have been few and far between (although that doesn’t mean they’ve been boring tidbits by any means).
So does the new trailer offer up any further insight as to how the caper to steal the Death Star plans all goes down? Not really, but knowing too much wouldn’t be very fun now would it. This trailer offers up some additional world building with a voiceover that explains the conditions in the universe at this point in time, and then pivots to Jyn Erso’s mission debrief meeting with Mon Mothma. Then, the action truly starts with promises that “there isn’t much time” and there is a high chance of failure on this mission.
Even though this is the second trailer for the movie, the action sequences thrown in as the Rogue One theme surges is still chilling. The two most important moments assuredly happen near the end of the trailer, one being the moment Jyn tells her team that they have a real chance to make a difference and them standing by her to accomplish the tough task ahead of them. The other, of course, being Darth Vader appearing in silhouette complete with the signature heavy breathing. If that’s not a perfect image to end on, then we’re not sure what is.
