Oliver Stone Took A Break From His Edward Snowden Movie To Chat About Ukraine And The CIA On Facebook

Oliver Stone is deep into planning his Edward Snowden movie, visiting Moscow to meet with the NSA whistleblower. But he also met with someone else during the trip: former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych. The man who fled the country back in February following protests and threats against his life. He’s also accused of murdering 100 protestors between December 2013 and February 2014, which is noteworthy but completely up in the air now.

Stone interviewed Yanukovych for four hours and that was enough time for the director to ascertain the knowledge he needed for a grand Facebook post that pointed the finger at the real culprit: The CIA:

Interviewed Viktor Yanukovych 4 hours in Moscow for new English language documentary produced by Ukrainians. He was the legitimate President of Ukraine until he suddenly wasn’t on February 22 of this year. Details to follow in the documentary, but it seems clear that the so-called ‘shooters’ who killed 14 police men, wounded some 85, and killed 45 protesting civilians, were outside third party agitators. Many witnesses, including Yanukovych and police officials, believe these foreign elements were introduced by pro-Western factions– with CIA fingerprints on it.

There you have it. The smell of CIA involvement is in the air, and I do believe that smells something like Agent Orange and rectal feeding. Delicious.

Now this isn’t so much about the facts of what is happening in Ukraine, who is at fault, who is pulling the strings, or any of the actual high stakes involved in the region. What it does have a lot to do with is the source.

Oliver Stone could provide me concrete proof that the CIA have people on the ground in Ukraine, showing me photos of agents shooting down planes and coaxing protests and I still don’t think I’d believe it. He’s so spotty with everything. Take this passage for example:

In this case the “Maidan Massacre” was featured in Western media as the result of an unstable, brutal pro-Russian Yanukovych Government. You may recall Yanukovych went along with the February 21 deal with opposition parties and 3 EU foreign minsters to get rid of him by calling for early elections. The next day that deal was meaningless when well-armed, neo-Nazi radicals forced Yanukovych to flee the country with repeated assassination attempts. By the next day, a new pro-Western government was established and immediately recognized by the US (as in the Chavez 2002 coup). (via)

I have no issue believing that IF it came from someone else. When it comes from Mr. Back and to the left, I just start to see flies buzzing around my room and the left side of my face droops a bit.

I watched The Untold History of The United States on Showtime, mostly because I know the kind of craziness to expect. I wasn’t disappointed and it was par for the course for Stone. The show provided just enough solid fact and evidence to make you take it as a serious documentary, but then would go and do something like say Joseph Stalin was doing great things during his time in Soviet Russia.

I honestly can’t wait to see this Snowden movie because I’m sure he’s going to handle it with tact. At least it won’t be anything like Blackhat, a movie where I’m supposed to believe Thor is some sort of great hacker/James Bond character. William Gibson is pissed.
