The official trailer for the Jane Austin mash-up Pride And Prejudice And Zombies is out and it seems a delightful, pleasant way to spend a sixpence at the moving picture shows. The international teaser trailer kept the Jane Austin and zombie bits apart, tricking the audience into thinking this was a straight up Pride & Prejudice remake until it switched into a full on zombie killing rampage for the final 30 seconds. The new trailer shows you just how mashed up Pride And Prejudice And Zombies is.
This isn’t just a retelling of Elizabeth Bennett and Mr Darcy’s romance with a sudden zombie breakout situation shoehorned in. This is a full on alternate universe where England has been dealing with the aftereffects of the zombie apocalypse for years: having packs of undead roaming the countryside has become the new normal, and every gentleman and lady is expected to know how to slay them. You’d know that if you had read the book, but if you’re like me you never picked it up because it sounded too gimmicky.
It may be that, but the preview certainly makes it seem like a fun gimmick, definitely worth two hours of my oh-so-valuable time. I’ve consumed a lot of terrible zombie and zombie-esque media in my day, so there’s a good chance I would have seen this even if the preview looked about as enticing as a pile of dog vomit. But aside from some issues with CG being used on zombies instead of make-up, it looks pretty good. I’m legit excited to check it out and have a list of characters I’m hoping get eaten (may Lady Catherine de Bourgh be devoured from the ass inwards by a particularly slow zombie with wooden dentures).
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies comes out in theaters February 5, 2016.
