Loyal subjects of Genovia take note. We might still be moving at a glacial pace towards a third Princess Diaries movie.
Whispers of a Princess Diaries threequel aren’t unheard of, but it’s always nice when the director of the potential project can weigh in and confirm something (anything!) has happened. We got that scenario courtesy of Larry King’s show on Ora TV where he spoke with Garry Marshall. The film/TV vet said that he and the film’s big stars had a chat about a potential third film. Newfangled modern technology was involved.
“Well, they talk about it. Disney always likes to announce things, so they tell Garry, ‘Shut up, we’ll announce it,’” he joked on Larry King Now. “[Anne Hathaway] came to my office, she was quite pregnant…she puts her computer on the table, pushes three buttons, there’s Julie Andrews on Skype in Long Island. And we have a meeting.”
Who knows what Princess Diaries III: The Final Dimension could have in store for Mia Thermopolis (there’s a lot of books to pull from), but having the key people from the first two movies on Skype is likely an arrow in a positive direction.
Back in March, Marshall shared with People (a magazine with humans in it!) that he and Hathaway expressed interest in adding to the series. A location was even provided.
“I was with Anne Hathaway a couple weeks ago, it looks like we want to do Princess Diaries 3 in Manhattan,” Marshall tells PEOPLE. “Anne Hathaway is very pregnant, so we have to wait until she has the baby and then I think we’re going to do it.”
Hathaway has since gone from being “very pregnant” to being mom to new arrival Jonathan Rosebanks Shulman. Who knows if a third Princess Diaries movie is going to happen, but we’re definitely fascinated by the prospect.
