Not everyone is Lupita Nyong’o. The first full-length movie she starred in was 12 Years a Slave, which earned her an Academy Award. Most actors and actresses tolerate years of bad parts before they finally land an Oscar nomination. Julia Roberts was in the very ’80s Firehouse before Steel Magnolias. Tom Hanks appeared in the slasher He Knows You’re Alone before Big. And Rachel McAdams, who’s up for Best Supporting Actress for her fine work in Spotlight, well, she had to suffer the indignity of being in Rob Schneider’s The Hot Chick, directed by Tom Brady (but not that Tom Brady).
It’s a horrible movie, but McAdams, who’s used to being in terrible things (*cough* True Detective season two *cough*), doesn’t see it that way. In fact, the Mean Girls star wants to thank Schneider for her entire career.
When she moved to Los Angles, she auditioned to play Nancy Drew in a TV pilot, but didn’t get the job. However, being devastated over losing the pilot helped her land her first movie, The Hot Chick.
“It allowed me to be really relaxed,” McAdams [said]. Having to switch bodies with Schneider made The Hot Chick “one of the hardest jobs I’ve had to date,” she says.
She added, with a smile, “I really have to thank Rob Schneider for that launching pad.” So, to recap, Rachel McAdams is in debt to Rob Schneider for her career, and Rob Schneider has Adam Sandler to thank for his career. Meaning, if not for Adam Sandler, there’s no Regina George. Or this GIF.
Thanks, Adam Sandler/Rob Schneider/tacos!
