‘Rogue One’ Scenes That Were In The Trailers, But Not The Movie

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opened big last weekend, exceeding all box office estimates despite a feckless boycott from Nazi sh*theads. We reviewed the film here and here and discussed how it’s both daringly different from and hearkening back to other Star Wars movies. The reshoots seem to be for the better, although they meant the trailers contained a lot of footage we didn’t see in theaters.

A film editor, Vashi Nedomansky, says he “did miss some of the trailer moments that resonated with me.” So he made “Rogue One: The Glorious Unused Footage” detailing 46 scenes and bits of dialogue from the promotional materials which didn’t make the final cut. Some of those scenes included dialogue which fits well in a trailer but may not have jibed with the film, like Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) telling Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly), “This is a rebellion isn’t it? I rebel.” Some jokes also got cut, like Alan Tudyk’s sassy robot K-2SO promising not to kill Jyn Erso. The finished film also cuts some expository dialogue, like Erso stating her name for the record and Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker) saying, “The world is coming undone. Imperial flags reign across the galaxy.

Plenty of cool shots didn’t make the final cut as well:

The real crime here is that they cut any of Director Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) and his glorious cape.
