Comic book movies continue to fire on all cylinders, with each new film adding to the overall mythos and bottom lines of various studios quite nicely. So it’s no surprise that there’s a lot of actors out there who want to get in on a franchise and lock themselves in as a popular superhero. Like Ron Perlman — no stranger to comic book adaptations — who’s letting the world know that he considers himself an excellent candidate to play Cable in the second Deadpool movie.
On Thursday and Friday, Perlman spent a sizable chunk of time on Facebook uploading photos of himself, Deadpool’s “sidekick,” and a few pieces of fan art:
It wouldn’t be Perlman’s first Marvel-related venture. He played Bloodpack member Dieter Reinhardt in Blade II, and has also provided the voices for several characters in many of Marvel’s animated ventures. Based on the pictures posted above, you can’t say he doesn’t nail Cable’s look. But is it enough to beat out Stephen Lang, who played Colonel Quaritch in Avatar? He’s also been campaigning relentlessly for the part.
For those of you who don’t know the character, Cable is a leader of the X-Men from an alternate future reality where the war between mutants and humanity has largely destroyed the world. He returns to the past to try and change the future for the better, but often comes to odds with the superheroes of the present day due to his violent, destructive tendencies. After his rival Bishop showed up in X-Men: Days of Future Past, many figured Cable wouldn’t be far behind. And with Deadpool 2 being fast tracked, it may not be long before we discover who will play him.
