Deadpool opens Friday and already has a sequel on the way, so Ryan Reynolds went on The Tonight Show to tell Jimmy Fallon a couple of anecdotes about getting the movie greenlit and the huge fan response it’s garnered. Reynolds has been trying to get Deadpool made for eleven years, but it wasn’t until the test footage leaked that it really moved forward.
At the time, Reynolds said he didn’t know who the culprit was, but he did offer them a kiss “full on the mouth, sloppy, with tongue, for two-straight minutes on live television.” Well, somebody leaked the footage, and the fan response was so overwhelming that “Fox basically had to greenlight the movie,” Reynolds tells Fallon.
Reynolds is pretty sure he knows who did it, too. “I know that one of us did it. There’s four of us. There’s me, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Tim Miller, the director. One of us did it. We all said at the beginning, ‘Someone should leak it. Someone should leak it.’ But I’m 70% sure it wasn’t me.”
If that’s not enough, naked brawler Ryan Reynolds then went on to talk about the awesome get-well gift he gave a Deadpool fan who went viral in a post-surgery video where she was bawling her eyes out because she thought she slept too long and missed seeing the movie in theaters. Reynolds (well, Fox) gave her and a friend plane tickets to the New York City premiere Monday night, because, as Reynolds explains, “With the touch of a button, I can force Fox to pay for something extravagant!”
