If you remember back towards the end of last year, we got a fantastic treat in the form of a fan film fight between Batman and Darth Vader. It was so good, the folks over at batinthesun provided an alternate version so that fans could choose which character they wanted to win. Anything that keeps Batman from just having his neck snapped and dropped from on high is fine by me.
Now they’re back with this year’s epic fan showdown and it’s another Sith Lord taking on a classic comic book character. Darth Maul is on the trail of the symbiote and that leads him directly into Spider-Man’s neck of the woods. He kidnaps Mary Jane and suddenly things get real for the web slinger. At least they would if he wasn’t cracking a joke at every turn.
That’s what Spider-Man does, even if he’s doing it a bit too much here. It’s still better than the last two Spider-Man movies. And Darth Maul is menacing in his return to live action (The Clone Wars counts, but come on, give me that spin-off game and movie). There’s even a nice cameo by Stan Lee himself tossed in there, proving he will make an appearance in any movie featuring his creations. Even the online fan variety.
What other epic mashup battles could we see in the future? Mr. Spock taking on Deadpool? Wolverine fighting with Jason Voorhees? Garfield and Heathcliff finally settling the score? I think that’s the one I want to see. Or maybe watch The Hulk take on all four members of Kiss.
