The Vulcan people have long been an integral part of the Star Trek universe. In the original timeline, the Vulcans made first contact with humanity after Zefram Cochrane rocketed out of Montana blasting Steppenwolf’s Magic Carpet Ride in the first warp-capable vessel, leading to a long term, at times strained, but still beneficial relationship between the two sides. Things haven’t been that easy for the Vulcans in J.J. Abrams’ new Star Trek universe, in fact — spoiler alert — Vulcan was blown up by a time-traveling Romulan looking for vengeance.

That’s sort of the plot for the upcoming Star Trek Beyond, where humanity is helping the remaining Vulcans to find a new home until everything goes wrong. So what better way for corporate synergy than to have Vulcans shopping for a new home and a mortgage, right? According to Mashable, a partnership with Quicken Loans has led to some advertisements that show a young, average Vulcan couple finding it “only logical” to use Quicken Loans’ new Rocket Mortgage service.
This kind of vertical integration is exactly the kind of stuff that doesn’t exist in Gene Roddenberry’s vision of the future for humanity, where war, racism, sexism, and greed were eliminated so that humanity could push to the stars and join the galactic community as a voice of reason. That being said, excuses can still be made for us because we haven’t quite gotten that far as a people yet. So yeah, Vulcans using smartphone apps to acquire mortgages, why not?
