Since LucasFilm originally announced a new Star Wars Anthology film following the story of everyone’s favorite bounty hunter, Boba Fett, the project’s momentum has come to a halt. Fantastic Four director Josh Trank ended up abandoning the film and currently, not much is known regarding the timeline for the film and when it will come to fruition. That’s not to say it won’t, as we want a Boba Fett movie. No, we need a Boba Fett movie.
Earlier this week, writer/director Eric Demeusy presented a trailer to the internet depicting what a Boba Fett movie would look like if he took the helm. Titled, Star Wars: The New Republic Anthology, the trailer comes in a bit over a minute long and finds our would-be hero escaping the deadly clutches of the Sarlacc Pit after three decades of captivity only to find “himself fighting alongside the Rebellion to establish a New Republic.” Hey, 30 years can change a man of any ilk, given the right circumstances. And whether that story detail seems far-fetched, what really stands out here is the style of the trailer. Demeusy looks to be using Return of the Jedi as a jumping off point to follow Fett on his mission to find his ship Slave 1.
Honestly, the concept of Fett fighting alongside the Rebellion could be an interesting angle to take. With so many different storylines being explored throughout the ever-expanding Star Wars universe, it all would come down to where these events would transpire on the timeline. All speculation aside, though, it’s nice to see the concept of a Boba Fett-centric story is still floating around in the ether.
