Obviously the Internet is playing a big part in this release and it provides a new wrinkle to an already crazy time. Personally, there are memories of the insanity ahead of The Phantom Menace release and the midnight release of toys and other merchandise. I was a kid, so it was a little different and the web wasn’t really at the point where it controlled people’s live. Now it’s a thing we can all experience via the wonder of Twitter and live streaming.
Now obviously there will be spoilers below, so don’t go on if you don’t want to be spoiled by possible sights and sounds related to The Force Awakens and the characters that will appear on the screen. OK? OK.

Starting out here we get a look at some of the talking masks we will see floating around this Halloween and beyond. Kylo Ren and Captain Phasma get the honor, meaning we get to hear Gwendoline Christie and Adam Driver growl out their evil lines every time we go to Target (it’s really hard not to press a button when they’re just sitting there).
Kylo Ren is first up, going on about the force and hunting down Jedi. Seems like business as usual for the Dark Side.

Christie as Phasma sounds like an interesting turn for the Stormtroopers we’re used to. They’ve always been incompetent fools with a noted inability to shoot straight, but Phasma seems to have her stuff together and she’s trying to keep the others in line. Then again, maybe this First Order is a little more rough than the old Imperial style? They got murdered and eaten by Ewoks before, so they’d almost have to be.

Elsewhere, IGN posted these two videos of talking Kylo Ren and Finn figures, giving us a chance to hear John Boyega’s American accent in action (and some of his Han Solo-esque dialogue). When Boyega is saying “I dont, know what, to do!” to some figure that Captain Phasma also addresses, I got the image of Harrison Ford in Temple of Doom. It’s a good feeling, but let’s try not to get hopes up too much here.

I also like that there seems to be a little possible brother/sister or friendship relationship between Kylo Ren and someone else, possibly Rey? Nothing is certain, but it’s a nice little bit to get from an action figure.
Also if you haven’t seen it, this black X-Wing LEGO set makes me hate kids and adults who still treat themselves like kids. I want one. I want one now. And if you want to check out more info and background spoilers, check out this piece over at Slash Film.
