The BAFTAs have been an entertaining affair, with the The Revenant taking home all of the major awards and paving a final awards season path to the Oscars. For the Mad Max: Fury Road fans out there, you can rest assured that George Miller’s opus is becoming more and more likely to take home a little gold man trophy now that Fury Road has won four out of its seven BAFTA nominations, bringing home trophies for editing, makeup and hair, best production design and costume design.
Sadly, the joyous occasion of the The British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards were temporarily marred when Stephen Fry called Fury Road costume designer Jenny Beavan a ‘bag lady’ as she left the stage after accepting her award. Twitter came to her defense immediately.

Cannot believe Stephen Fry said that bag lady thing. How very rude…. #BAFTAs

Not sure comparing #bafta2016 costume design winner to a bag lady was very gallant @stephenfry

This led to Stephen being Stephen:

In retrospect, the Twitter masses prematurely lost their collective cool. Stephen Fry isn’t so cold and callous that he would call a woman who is just leaving the stage after winning a major award a “bag lady.” What kind of heartless person do you think he is? He’s been friends with Jenny Beavan for years (they even worked together on Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and other British productions), and like any good friend of Stephen Fry, you’ll get mocked from time to time. That’s how you know he really loves you.

And so, Twitter came out to defend Stephen Fry from Twitter, on Twitter, and everything was well and everything was normal… On Twitter.
I thought she was admirable for dressing in what she felt comfortable in & not following herd @Claire88Cooper @stephenfry #BAFTA #baglady

Hopefully this will lead to a Stephen Fry cameo in the next Mad Max movie. I don’t know how, I don’t know why, but I’m just hoping it happens. He’ll look good being dressed up (or down) by an award-winning costume designer.
