Steven Spielberg looks to be pretty busy for the next year or two. He’s finishing work on Bridge of Spies with Tom Hanks, followed immediately by his adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The BFG. Even now, however, he’s staying ahead of the game and already planning for his next feature — another adaptation, this time of Ernest Cline’s Ready Player One. We may even have an idea of who he’s looking to cast in the female lead.
According to TheWrap, Elle Fanning (Super 8), Olivia Cooke (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl), and Lola Kirke (Mistress America) are all on The ‘Berg’s (does anyone else but me call him that? … probably not) shortlist for the role of virtual reality superstar Samantha Cook, also known as “Art3mis” (apparently, in the future, everyone uses AOL chat room screen names and handles). It’s still early in the process (and this isn’t even considering the “Spielberg casting Gene Wilder” rumor), but word is that Spielberg wants to get moving on the project as quickly as possible once he wraps up on The BFG, so as to make the Dec. 15, 2017 release date.
