Kids have been arguing about who would win in a fight, Superman or Batman or Rainbow Archer, for decades. (No one ever picks Rainbow Archer.) A Dark Knight vs. Man of Steel movie should be thrilling, but in Zack Snyder’s hands, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is a “dull” film about “a bunch of superheroes and supervillains talking about being superheroes and supervillains.” Thankfully, it’s not the only Batman movie coming out.
The LEGO Batman Movie, a spin-off from Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s wonderful The LEGO Movie, is a welcome antidote to the gritty angst of Dawn of Justice. It stars the gravel-voiced Will Arnett as the Caped Crusader, with Michael Cera as Robin, Rosario Dawson as Batgirl, Ralph Fiennes as Alfred, Mariah Carey as Gotham’s mayor (!), and Zach Galifianakis as the Joker, who sadly doesn’t make an appearance in the just-released teaser trailer above. But he probably doesn’t look like he maxed out his credit card at Hot Topic.
Here’s the official plot synopsis.
There are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.
Here’s LEGO Batman’s impression of you watching Dawn of Justice:
The LEGO Batman Movie comes out in 2017.
