The Lonely Island have a new film/Judd Apatow dong delivery mechanism out next week in the form of Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping. We’ve already been spoiled with a number of tracks from the motion picture (including what we’re boldly willing to state is the Bin Laden bedroom anthem of 2016) and now we’ve gotten a real-life story from the trio that would be worthy of its own SNL Digital Short. (No Justin Timberlake cameo required.)
Thanks to a remarkably charming Pitchfork animated feature, the saga of a night of mid-aughts drunken debauchery featuring Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone now has its own showcase. Well, it’s more Jorma’s liquored-up adventure when it comes to this revisitation of an evening out at the El Rey in Los Angeles, but all three have something to say in this hilarious cautionary tale of how too many Long Island Iced Teas can leave you shirtless, embarrassed and trying to project the aura of a nonchalant late night chef.
As a bonus treat, the clip includes a quick mention of how The Lonely Island came to get their name. This delightful video chunklet is located at the top of the post and it’s something that should help tide you over until Popstar arrives in theaters on June 3.
