If Hollywood has taught us anything, it’s that nothing good ever happens on mountains. In Alive, we learned that if your plane hits a mountain and crashes, you might have to eat people in order to survive. In Cliffhanger, we learned that sometimes when you answer rescue calls, you might be abducted by international thieves and forced to help them recover a lot of money, before you ultimately have to kill a man in a lackluster battle. And now in Everest, we learn that trying to climb Mt. Everest is probably a very dangerous, and therefore bad, idea.
Inspired by the incredible events surrounding an attempt to reach the summit of the world’s highest mountain, Everest documents the awe-inspiring journey of two different expeditions challenged beyond their limits by one of the fiercest snowstorms ever encountered by mankind. Their mettle tested by the harshest elements found on the planet, the climbers will face nearly impossible obstacles as a lifelong obsession becomes a breathtaking struggle for survival. The epic adventure stars Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, Robin Wright, Michael Kelly, Sam Worthington, Keira Knightley, Emily Watson and Jake Gyllenhaal.
In this new trailer for the weather/extreme sports disaster porn, we watch a team of mountain climbing bros learn the hard way that God simply did not want us to leave the ground (dogs are fine, though). Directed by Baltasar Kormákur (2 Guns, Contraband), Everest looks to challenge the way that we’re drawn in for cinematic adventures with insane special effects and breathtaking visuals. But perhaps Kormákur’s greatest feat is making a movie without Mark Wahlberg.
