Earlier this morning, Clipped actress Lauren Lapkus appeared on the KTLA 5 morning show to discuss her work past, present and future — including this summer’s most-likely-going-to-be-a-blockbuster Jurassic World. The interview is fun, and it’s nice that Lapkus got some time to promote her projects. But let’s face facts — New Girl and Let’s Be Cops star Jake Johnson steals the show with some zingy, written-by-committee one liners.
Sarcastic jabs like his response to Mr. Masrani’s (Irrfan Khan) corporate quip about “eventualities”:
You should put that in the brochure. “Eventually one of these things will eat somebody!”
Or when he finishes Claire Dearing’s (Bryce Dallas Howard) sentence because she’s too stiff (Joss Whedon’s word, not mine) to fully pronounce the word “eaten.”
This is a good sign. Why? Because Johnson’s character Lowery Cruthers seems to be the film’s primary source of comic relief, and that’s a valuable asset for an action film. Maybe he won’t get eaten! Or maybe director Colin Trevorrow will out-Spielberg his predecessor and ruin New Girl fans everywhere.
