Somewhere along the way, there was a discussion about continuing the Underworld franchise of movies, perhaps solely on the basis that Kate Beckinsale appears in them all clad in leather. That is enough to sell people on these films and, really, it has worked and none of us are complaining.
Kate Beckinsale originally was done with the Underworld films after the third one, with the movies being conceived originally as a trilogy, yet she dug the fourth script and returned and now, lo and behold, here she is again for the fifth film, Underworld: Blood Wars, and she’s still scheduled for a sixth one in the future. Because, while the initial Twilight vampire craze might be over, there is always room for Kate Beckinsale in a tight leather outfit among groups of brooding vampires and werewolves while they war with each other.
Underworld: Blood Wars follows up where Underworld: Awakening left off and, yes, the Lycans and the vampires are still at war, and Selene’s blood seems to be the key to invincibility, once again pulling her into this seemingly endless conflict to settle the score once and for all. Well, not once and for all since there is at least one more movie after it, but stuff will happen when it comes to theaters on January 6th, 2017.
