Vin Diesel is currently on the promotional tour for xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage (why it needs more promotion than the trailer featuring dirt bike surfing is beyond me), but in between each extreme take, Diesel also had a few Marvel tidbits to thrill and confuse fans. The second awesome teaser trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 dropped this weekend, putting our favorite band of a-holes back into the forefront of everyone’s mind, so obviously Diesel was going to be pressed a bit on the Groot front. Screen Junkies‘ correspondent Roth Cornet recently sat down with Diesel, and she managed to get him to drop a few hints at what may be coming to the MCU.
“I think if it’s up to James Gunn, you’re going to see a Groot and Rocket movie, after Infinity War. That’s highly possible. We shall see… I know that somewhere in the universe you’re going to see Groot and Hulk battle, I know it! Write it down somewhere, you’re going to see that posted…Groot versus Hulk.”
Interesting. There is comic precedent for a Hulk vs. Groot throw down, so we’ll see what happens in Infinity War. Director James Gunn already shot down the rumor of a Hulk appearance in Guardians Vol. 2, so if it’s coming, it won’t be for a while. However, there is probably good reason to be skeptical about a Groot and Rocket spinoff. As wonderful as these two are, they definitely work best as supporting characters. We don’t want to send them down the Minions route. So, as with all of the speculation about what’s to come in the Marvel universe, we’ll just have to wait and see. Until then, there’s always fanfiction.
