As you may have gathered from the title, War for the Planet of the Apes isn’t gearing up to be a sassy rom-com or an erotic thriller. (At least, not on the surface.) Instead, the latest instalment in the surprisingly satisfying Apes reboot run promises “an epic battle.”
New York Comic Con is being treated to an early peek at the movie this week and now details have tumbled out about what director/co-writer Matt Reeves has at the ready for War. Here’s what a still cooling press release is trumpeting for the new motion picture:
“Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.”
This can only end peacefully, right? In addition to Reeves, co-writer Mark Bomback, Andy Serkis, Judy Greer and Karin Konoval returning from the last Apes film, Woody Harrelson will be joining the action playing the villainous Colonel. Now let’s all attempt to go on with our day and patiently wait for War for the Planet of the Apes to hit theaters on July 14, 2017.
