Another day, another superhero movie rumor. Warner Bros.’ standalone Wonder Woman movie is on the verge of beginning production and with that news, comes new scoops that may — or may not — come to fruition. It was already announced a few months back that Chris Pine will play Diana Prince’s love interest Steve Trevor in the film. While the coupling of Gal Gadot and Star Trek‘s Pine does sound appealing, a new rumor has hit — thanks to SourceFedNerd — that Warner Bros. is considering adding another couple to the equation as the film’s two main villains: Sean Bean and Eva Green.
Now internet, before you blow your collective top, let me once again remind you that right now this is just an unsubstantiated rumor. However, the casting possibility was brought to light by the ever-resourceful movie scooper El Mayimbe and that man does have a penchant for breaking correct tidbits before everyone else. If this news is based in fact, let’s break down who the two will be playing.
Sean Bean, who is most known for all that dying he does in movies — oh and also for Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings — is being considered for the role of Ares, the Greek God of War. Having already played Zeus in the Percy Jackson films, Bean may be perfectly suited to play Wonder Woman‘s longtime adversary.
And let’s not forget Eva Green. Seriously, how could you forget Eva Green? The star of Showtime’s Penny Dreadful and 300: Rise of an Empire is up for the villainous role of sorceress Circe. The character is another one of Diana Prince’s long-time foes and what better way to kick off a standalone movie about this popular comic-book superhero than to bring in some genre favorites to play these baddies?
I’m sure we’ll find out soon if this info is more than just more geek fodder for the internet. But, this casting decision — if it’s true — may add a bit more clout to DC’s new slate of movies. With Marvel’s decision to bring on Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Tilda Swinton and possibly even Mads Mikkelsen for Doctor Strange, Warner Bros. may be looking to break out the big guns, actor-wise, to go toe-to-toe with their own long-time comic book adversary. This could get very interesting.
