World War 3 will soon be upon us. Don’t get too bummed out about it, though. It’ll be Sam Raimi ushering in the event. Woo! Go terrifying global conflict go!
The Drag Me To Hell helmer has agreed to showcase a depiction of the great big war threequel on the big screen. The film, which sadly is not a dramatization of WCW’s World War 3, will be based on George Friedman’s speculative non-fiction offering The Next 100 Years. Here’s a bit of the promo copy on what Friedman’s 2009 book explores.
“Positing that civilization is at the dawn of a new era, he offers a lucid, highly readable forecast of the changes we can expect around the world during the twenty-first century all based on his own thorough analysis and research. For example, The U.S.-Jihadist war will be replaced by a new cold war with Russia; China’s role as a world power will diminish; Mexico will become an important force on the geopolitical stage; and new technologies and cultural trends will radically alter the way we live (and fight wars).”
But are our snacks okay? That’s something we need closure on. Possibly before the film gets made.
Raimi’s last big screen offering was something a little less WWIII-y depending on where you stand on the battles waged in 2013’s Oz the Great and Powerful. The 56-year-old filmmaker’s most recent project is of course on the small screen in the form of Ash vs Evil Dead. Speaking of which, they’ve announced who will be playing Ash’s dad in season 2. Groovy.
