With the news that Hugh Jackman will be done with the X-Men after Wolverine 3 and the rumor that Wolverine 3 and X-Men: Apocalypse may mark the end of Bryan Singer’s X-Men universe, the question becomes, “How will Fox continue to empty this cash cow of its life force like the cow is a mutant and Fox is Rogue?”
The answer: The Fault In Our Stars.
No, really.
Deadline reports Fox has signed Josh Boone (The Fault In Our Stars) to direct a “standalone spinoff” of The New Mutants to expand the X-Men cinematic universe. Boone will also co-write with Knate Gwaltney, who is a real person and not a name we just made up.
Most of the mutants in The New Mutants are, well, new. They’re a younger batch (broken down here), but a few of them have appeared in the movies already. Sunspot and Warpath were in Days Of Future Past (played by Adan Canto and Booboo Stewart, two more names we didn’t make up), while Morena Baccarin has been cast as Copycat in Deadpool. This is described as a standalone, however, so all parts might be recast with younger actors.
And even though Nightcrawler wasn’t a new mutant, I still kind of want him to cross over into this movie so we can have a silly name party.
